Surface Plasmons in Silicon Nanowires

چکیده
Plasmon resonances (PRs) in metallic nanostructures have been extensively studied, whereas reports on PR silicon nanowires (Si NWs) are very few, partial, and they refer to structures larger than 100 nm. Discrete Si NWs with core sizes as small 30 nm at high resolution observed. They attributed plasmonic identifying two groups, the traveling waves, exhibiting discrete modes along NW length for several orders of harmonics, localized generated by transverse oscillations diameter, observing them best our knowledge first time (SiNWs) every size. The experimental findings coupled modeling, confirming data adding further insights into NW's embedding medium role. A plasmon‐induced resonant cavity opens markets material processing, photodetectors, novel plasmon‐based nano‐optics, thanks intense optical energy delivery below diffraction limit addition exceptional integration capacity silicon.

متن کاملHighly tunable propagating surface plasmons on supported silver nanowires.
Surface plasmons, the quanta of the collective oscillations of free electrons at metal surface, can be easily tuned by changing the surrounding dielectric materials, which is well known for metal nanoparticles and metal surfaces, but less is known for one-dimensional metal nanowires. Here, we find an extremely large tunability of surface plasmons on Ag nanowires with a beat period of the near-f...
متن کاملDirectional light emission from propagating surface plasmons of silver nanowires.
Thin metallic nanowires are highly promising candidates for plasmonic waveguides in photonic and electronic devices. We have observed that light from the end of a silver nanowire, following excitation of plasmons at the other end of the wire, is emitted in a cone of angles peaking at nominally 45-60 degrees from the nanowire axis, with virtually no light emitted along the direction of the nanow...
متن کاملQuantifying surface roughness effects on phonon transport in silicon nanowires.
Although it has been qualitatively demonstrated that surface roughness can reduce the thermal conductivity of crystalline Si nanowires (SiNWs), the underlying reasons remain unknown and warrant quantitative studies and analysis. In this work, vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) grown SiNWs were controllably roughened and then thoroughly characterized with transmission electron microscopy to obtain detaile...
متن کاملConductance, surface traps, and passivation in doped silicon nanowires.
We perform ab initio calculations within the Landauer formalism to study the influence of doping on the conductance of surface-passivated silicon nanowires. It is shown that impurities located in the core of the wire induce a strong resonant backscattering at the impurity bound state energies. Surface dangling bond defects have hardly any direct effect on conductance, but they strongly trap bot...
